Professor Donal Hollywood's Biography

Professor Donal Hollywood is the Marie Curie Professor of Clinical Oncology at Trinity College Dublin and the Head of the Academic Unit of Clinical and Molecular Oncology at the College.  He trained in clinical & molecular oncology at the Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial Cancer Research Fund (London) and Baylor College of Medicine (USA). He has received a number of awards including a Fulbright Scholarship, the Lilly/ESMO Research Scholarship, and St Luke’s Medal. He has held elected positions on the Board of Trinity College Dublin, the Faculty of Radiologists (RCSI), and the Education Board of the Royal College of Radiologists (London). Professor Hollywood was the founding course director of the ESTRO educational course on molecular oncology and a member of the EORTC Education Committee, and the first Chairperson of the ESTRO Clinical Committee.  He is a member of the Implementation Group of the NCI-All Ireland Consortium and Chair of the Information Technology Subgroup.  He has served as Chair of the National Expert Group on Radiation Oncology, Chair of the National Radiation Oncology Coordinating Group (NCROG) and is the principal author of the strategic policy document on the future development of radiation oncology services in Ireland. In 2010 he was appointed National Academic Lead in Radiation Oncology within the National Cancer Control Plan (NCCP). His primary research interest is the development of biologically-optimized radiation therapy strategies using novel targeted agents and precision radiation therapy.
